Dr. Cohen in the News
Dr. Cohen enjoys opportunities to share her experience and knowledge with others.
The Georgia Department of Public Health started funding a training program in 2015 specifically for ASD. It focused on doing hands-on case studies in child behavior. So far they have trained 54 child psychologists.
Dr. Avital Cohen was one of those doctors.
“It was more hands on. Instead of watching, we actually got to do it with other people watching us and providing feedback on and how we were doing with it,” Cohen said.
Avital K. Cohen, a licensed psychologist who was not involved in the research, believes that a variety of factors contribute to the rising trend seen in this study.
"Our expectations of children have changed pretty significantly in the last several decades," Cohen said.
"Many parents try to protect their children from experiencing failure when they are young; thus, when they experience it later in life, they may not have developed the resources and/or coping skills they need to manage it," she said.
