History and Billing

Dr. Avital K. Cohen founded Peachtree Pediatric Psychology to provide personalized, comprehensive services to children and their families. Our goal is to make psychological assessments affordable and accessible. We proudly participate with many insurances, including BCBS (also known as Anthem) and straight Medicaid (also referred to sometimes as Social Security Medicaid or Katie Beckett Medicaid), and also offer self-pay options. If we are not in network with your insurance, we can provide a superbill for you to submit for out of network coverage. We are also able to submit a claim on behalf of United Healthcare families. Please know that different providers in our practice may be on different panels. Our billing specialist will check your benefits as a courtesy to provide an estimate for any costs associated with visits to our office.

Good Faith Estimate

OMB Control Number [0938-1401] Expiration Date [12/31/2022]

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

●      You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

●      Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

●      If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

●      Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.

Licensed Psychologist

Avital K. Cohen, Psy.D.

I have always enjoyed working with children, adolescents, and their families. Currently, my primary focus is on the assessment of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), as well as other common problems in the pediatric population, including developmental delays, learning problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), emotional disorders, behavioral issues, and more. Another area I am passionate about is identifying gifted students, as well as determining supportive services for individuals who are twice exceptional. I am also able to provide a variety of treatment planning/care coordination services, but do not currently offer therapy services. In addition to my work with children and families, I also offer assessment and treatment planning services for adults on the autism spectrum and with other developmental concerns.

I am well versed in Katie Beckett Deeming Waiver and NOW/COMP waiver requirements for evaluation and understand the short time frames in which these evaluations often must be completed.

I began my career as a psychologist serving in the US Army. In support of my fellow soldiers, I deployed to Iraq to provide psychological services. My military experience helped me develop specialized skills for assessing and treating trauma concerns, which has helped me become a thorough and detailed diagnostician.
